UFC 117 Thoughts!

By Priscilla Marie Delgado

Okay guys so as we all know UFC 117 delivered very well!!!! The fans were pleased,Dana White was pleased and the whole fight world was pleased!!

Here are the results!

Main Card:

Anderson Silva def Chael Sonnen via submission

Jon Fitch def Thiago Alves via Unanimous Decision

Clay Guida def Rafael Dos Anjos via Submission

Matt hughes def. Ricardo Almeida via Submission

Junior dos Santos def Roy Nelson via Unanimous Decision

Undercard:

Rick Story def Dustin Hazelett via Second Round TKO

Phil Davis def Rodney Wallace via Unanimous Decision

Johnny Hendricks def Charlie Brenneman via Second Round TKO

Tim Boetsh def Todd Brown via Unanimous Decision

Stefan Struve def Christian Morecraft  via Second Round TKO

Dennis Hallman def Ben Saunders via Unanimous Decision

Hughes  proved once again he’s the “Gracie Killer” and submitted Almeida in an Arm Triangle and tapped out quick, when have you seen that happen?! Never!

I give props to Roy Nelson,he fought his heart out and JDS proved he can’t be knocked out.Major props to both of them!! I have respect for Nelson now.

Clay guida vs. Dos Anjos..I love how Guida always hypes his fights up by always jumping around with a smile and i love his sweet curly hair! I feel bad for Dos Anjos because Guida broke his jaw (or did he?)

Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves..since Alves didn’t make weight (again) it was a decent fight.Fitch won fair and square.

And the talk of the night!

Anderson Silva vs. chael Sonnen-First of all Sonnen did back his smack talking up by taking Silva to the floor and pounding him out for 24 minutes. Those who say he didn’t can jump off a cliff because he did exactly what he said but got caught in a Triangle Choke the last minute and claims he “didn’t tap” but in my opinion i thought it was a tap,not a perfect one but a sloppy one.

What did you guys think of 117? and who’s next for Ando? Vitor Belfort or a rematch against Sonnen?

Interview with Antwain “The Juggernaut” Britt

I am sure by now that Antwain is a household name, with a Pro record of 11 wins 4 losses.  We last saw him fight Rafael Cavalcante in Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery. Although this was a loss for Antwain after his winning streak, this isn’t holding him back. He is ready to get back out there and fight again.  Antwain has also been busy creating classes on self defense for women, both young and old down in the Virginia Beach area.  When I get more on his classes I will definitely let you all know!

Interview with John Dodson III aka The Magician

I got the chance to get a few questions over to John after seeing him two times at UWC in Northern Virginia (My hometown!). He is an amazing fighter who really has earned the nickname “The Magician.”  Even though he is only 5′4″ , he has quick hands, reflexes and can land vicious combos on his opponent before they even have time to blink.  With a 9-5 pro record, John is definitely on his way to the top.  You might have recognized him from the TapouT reality show, but what he is known for along with his quick hands is his fly through the air like magic kicks.  Keep an eye out for John, I feel bigger things coming along for him very very soon :)  John was also kind enough to send over some really awesome TapouT shirts, one for myself and one for a lucky winner!

Injury forces Urijah Faber out of WEC 50, Takeya Mizugaki pulled from card

Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber’s bantamweight debut will have to wait, as an injury has forced “The California Kid” out of WEC 50.

Faber (23-4 MMA, 8-3 WEC) announced his withdrawal from the card on his Twitter account.

Faber was scheduled to face Takeya Mizugaki (13-4-2 MMA, 2-2 WEC) at the event, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the promotion that a replacement opponent will not be sought for the Japanese product.

Featuring a bantamweight title bout between current champ Dominick Cruz and top contender Joseph Benavidez, “WEC 50: Cruz vs. Benavidez” takes place Aug. 18 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The main card airs live on Versus.

It’s currently unknown which bout will be promoted to the evening’s main card to replace the previously scheduled co-feature.

Faber, who was scheduled to fight for the first time as a 135-pounder, stated on his Twitter account that the injury happened on Monday.

Faber, who reigned as the WEC’s 145-pound champ and emerged as the organization’s biggest star during a 13-fight win streak from 2005 to 2008, since has gone 2-3 in his past five fights. He lost his belt to Mike Brown at WEC 36, dropped a rematch at WEC 41, and after getting another shot at the belt, suffered a decision loss to now-champ Jose Aldo at WEC 48 in April.

Mixed in with the losses were submissions wins over Jens Pulver and Raphael Assuncao.

Faber has yet to announce a timetable for his return.

thanks for the update – via MMAJUNKIE

Tuff -n- Uff: Where Locals made their MMA Debut

Written by: Prizzy

As everyone was looking forward to the most anticipated fight card of the year: UFC 116 on Saturday night (which took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena). But the night before the big fight card, everyone’s attention was on the Orleans Casino for the Tuff N Uff Fights, where local MMA fighters come to make their debut and have a chance to launch their careers as pro MMA fighters (like Aaron Riley and Jon Fitch).

From KO’s to TKO’s to submissions to decisions  Tuff N Uff was a satisfying night, not only because it was Independence Day weekend and also because UFC 116, but because there were two 8 women tournaments in the 135 lbs division.Every fighter  delivered very well and made everyone glued to the non-stop action in the ring.
