I got the chance to get a few questions over to John after seeing him two times at UWC in Northern Virginia (My hometown!). He is an amazing fighter who really has earned the nickname “The Magician.”  Even though he is only 5′4″ , he has quick hands, reflexes and can land vicious combos on his opponent before they even have time to blink.  With a 9-5 pro record, John is definitely on his way to the top.  You might have recognized him from the TapouT reality show, but what he is known for along with his quick hands is his fly through the air like magic kicks.  Keep an eye out for John, I feel bigger things coming along for him very very soon  John was also kind enough to send over some really awesome TapouT shirts, one for myself and one for a lucky winner!

How did you get your start in MMA?

Funny you ask because they found me outta Chuck E. Cheese here in Albuquerque,NM. I was doing Chris Luttell son’s birthday party there. Some of them knew who I was from wrestling and told me to come train with them. After that I fell in love with the sport.
Who do you look up to and why?

Favorite fighters are Duane “Bang” Ludwig cuz of his technique and sportsmanship. Also Kieth “The Dean of Mean” Jardine cuz of his heart and his never say die attitude. He doesn’t care who you put in front of him he’ll take them head on.
What is your first thought when you are getting rocked early on in a fight?

Why is he hitting me so hard? Man up son, you’re in a fight.
What is your diet like before and after a fight?

Before a fight seafood diet & after a see food diet. Before I eat seafood, chicken, veggies, fruits,eggs, and plenty of tea. After a fight tho, it’s a “See Food diet”. Everything I see I eat. I really don’t watch what I eat after a fight.


What makes you different than other fighters?

I’m different because I believe in the impossible. Everything they say can’t be done I will try to prove them wrong and with a smile.

Tell me about the gym you train at and why you love it

I train at Jackson/Winklejohn MMA. Everyone here treats and cares bout each other like family. We look after each other no matter what’s going on in our life. In and out of the cage.

Tell the readers something about you that not a lot of people know about

As cocky as I may seem people have told me that I’m the nicest guy that they ever met. I don’t believe it but they do.

What is one quote you live by and why?

“I gonna have my name written in the stars and not washed away in the sand” -John Dodson III. I’ve lived by this for over 12 years now. I want people to remember me till the end of time.

When and where is your next fight? Who is your opponent?

I don’t know when, who or where my next fight is but when the time comes I’ll be ready.

Where do you see yourself in a year?

In the #1 spot in my weight class and hopefully in the SEC 125 weight class. So that the world can fall in love with me too.

Who his your strength and conditioning coach is and what are some of the things they have you do?

Chris Luttell is my strength and conditioning coach. He has me doing a lot of acrobatics and core training. Since I like flying in the air that’s what its gear towards.
